So yesterday the annoucement went out that MySpace and CitySearch are partnering in a new relationship to allow the MySpace crowds to rate, rank, recommend local businesses. Sounds like a great opportunity right? One of the largest social networking sites making it really easy for all those users to share, review and post about businesses they love is good for small business everywhere and great for CitySearch and their paying advertisers. Nothing like adding a distribution partner that has tons and tons of social media happy users willing to click and click and click.

One highlight from the announcement is the first round of targeted verticals:

“Currently, listing verticals include restaurants, bars and nightlife. Other verticals, such as hotels, doctors, dry cleaners, travel and attractions, will roll out in the coming months, said Berman, noting a mobile push also was on the horizon.”

Ultimately the question becomes, will MySpace users embrace the opportunity to align with local businesses or will this be another good intentioned effort that results in a press release and a few happy business owners. Only time will tell.
