What a great cyber-monday for me! I’ve been looking at a massage chair (ijoy) for several months and just keep convincing myself to wait or that I don’t need it. Of course I don’t need it, but it is a massage chair! I’ve had a 10% off coupon for ebay all month and that wasn’t enough to convince me to pull the trigger on the massage chair. Then Cyber-Monday happened. I received the following email from ebay today:

Well I am happy to say that 40% off always seems to get me more interested than 10% off and it worked! My massage chair is shipping tomorrow and should be here by the end of the week. Will this cause me to start using Live.com for searching ever again, NO. But I do love Microsoft for their willingness to share the wealth!

The question is: Does this type of savings help with market share? NO.

Does this type of partnership create future marketing opportunities for Microsoft, Live.com and the Cashback program Microsoft is still trying to figure out? YES.

I now have a Cashback Account tied to my Windows Live ID and they know what I bought. They now know I also have a paypal account and I’m sure will continue to work with eBay to learn more and more about me and my purchase history. Although I haven’t used my hotmail account in years, they now know more about me and my online buying than they ever have before.

That’s why I really like the AdLab from Microsoft. They find ways to get accurate information and this is why they are still a force to be reckoned with for web marketing stuff.
